Gasquet Goes Out Too; Caption Contest

The much-anticipated duels between Andy Roddick and James Blake against Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Wimbledon semifinalist Richard Gasquet are not to be.  One day after the French scratched No. 13-ranked Tsonga due to a torn meniscus cartilage in his knee, No. 10-ranked Gasquet on Thursday was omitted from the lineup due to blisters on his racket hand.  That means Friday No. 6-ranked Roddick will play No. 41 Michael Llodra in the first singles, and No. 8-ranked Blake will play No. 12 Paul-Henri Mathieu in the second match.   On Sunday, the singles will reverse with Roddick against Mathieu, whom he beat in Miami last week in three sets, and Blake against Llodra (unless of course the lineups are substituted last minute.)   Of those matches, the U.S. players are a combined 6-1 against the French singles.  The premier match of the weekend now will be the doubles, with the No. 1 ranked Bryan brothers against Llodra and Arnaud Clement, the reigning Wimbledon doubles champs.

–Richard:  “I got blisters on my fingers!”
