Americans: Two and Out in Hamburg
Seventh-seeded James Blake earned a bye in the first round but then lost to Janko Tipsarevic in three sets in the Hamburg Masters Series tournament on Wednesday, making Blake the last American to be knocked out of the draw. Mardy Fish, the only other American to enter the tournament, lost his first round match to Albert Montanes 6-1, 6-3.
Andy Roddick has flown back to the states for treatment on his back, an injury which required him to quit early in the semifinal match Saturday at the Italian Open. Reports say Roddick hopes to return to Europe to play in the World Team Championships starting in Dusseldorf on Sunday.
Sam Querrey has not played a tournament since his run to the quarterfinals at Monte Carlo on April 25.
