Monte Carlo a No-Go for All Americans Except the Bryan Brothers

There are no American men in the singles draw in Monte Carlo this year, and only the World No. 1 Bryan brothers are playing in the doubles.   It doesn’t look like that grueling of a trip to me.  I’d take it over Indianapolis, Cincinnati or Memphis any day.

Andy Roddick, however, could have a pretty good excuse.  He soon will be joining freshly married Roger Federer in the bethrothed column, although last month he refused to tell reporters in Miami the date or the location of his forthcoming nuptials.

But there are three other Americans in the top 50 who should be there:  No. 17 James Blake, No. 28 Mardy Fish and No. 45 Sam Querrey (pictured below as a quarterfinalist last year.)  Perhaps they all went to the Monte Carlo Casino in Las Vegas instead.
