The Monotony of Perfection

Once again, the top four seeds are in the quarters of a Grand Slam, and most likely, once again they’ll reach the semis. How many times are we going to see Djokovic, Fededer, Nadal, and Murray play one another? They’ve played so many great matches already — what more can they do? The rematches will never be as good as the best of the first dozen times around. This Groundhog Day era of tennis has become boring. That’s why I’m pulling for Nicholas Almagro to bust open the door and pull a shocker and win it all. That’s why every tournament I’m pulling for John Isner to break through. That and he’s a fellow Georgia Bulldog. It will happen one day. This quartet’s domination can’t go on forever. It’s hard to believe we are approaching ten years with all of the Grand Slams won by three men + Del Potro’s big upset. It’s time for some new blood. Maybe not this year, but hopefully soon …

I’m still waiting for Andy Murray to breakthrough.
