    • Related posts brought to you by Yet Another Related Posts Plugin.]]>     Fresh off stops in scintillating cities like Birmingham, Winston-Salem and Portland, the USTA is looking for its next host city for a possible match in September against the Czech Republic.  I continue to hope, as I did in a long post last fall, that they will do something exciting and choose a memorable venue instead of another second-tier city with an underused arena.  But I’m not counting on it.

    In an e-mail earlier this month, the USTA’s Jeff Ryan wrote:

    U.S. Davis Cup Team Update

    The U.S. Davis Cup Team faced Switzerland last month at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex Arena in Birmingham, Alabama, in the First Round of the 2009 competition. Team USA defeated Switzerland 4-1, and will now travel to Porec, Croatia, for the Quarterfinal Round being held July 10-12.

     

    If the U.S. defeats Croatia AND the Czech Republic defeats Argentina in another Quarterfinal Round match-up, the U.S. would then host the Czech Republic in the Semifinal Round to be held September 18-20 at a site to be determined here in the United States.

     

    We are now actively looking for cities/venues interested in hosting this potential Semifinal Round tie.

    If you believe your facility/venue can meet the minimum requirements, please click on the link below to download the RFP for this event. While reviewing the RFP, please keep the following deadlines in mind:

    Monday, May 4 — Deadline to notify USTA of intent to bid.

    Monday, June 8 – Deadline for USTA to receive official bids.

    Week of July 13 – Anticipated date to announce site selection.

    Please keep in mind the RFPs for both events are “wish lists” — if you feel your city/venue is unable to meet certain criteria, please contact us as we are always open to alternative and creative ideas. We are committed to working with each and every potential host city/venue to explore the possibility of bringing a Davis Cup or Fed Cup tie to the area, and to making every aspect of the event a great experience for all.
