I should have slept in. After yesterday’s fantastic doubles comeback by the French, I woke up early, expecting the Monfils-Djokovic match to be a battle. Instead Monfils made a mess of things. Michael Llodra did no better against Victor Troicki in the second match, very uneventful for the rare 2-2 matchup in a final. The French players won only 15 games in six sets, and Serbia is the 2010 Davis Cup champion. At least now the Serbian line judges accused yesterday by their team of being “unpatriotic” for serving up some home cooking now don’t have to worry too much about being deported — or worse.

Tonight, Roddick goes up against Feliciano Lopez, while the giant Georgia Bulldog John Isner goes up against Gael Monfils. Roddick is the second match in the Laver Arena, and Isner-Monfils is the third match on Margaret Court, so it’s a night that will be worth staying up late. Check the Australian Open match schedule here.

The battle for the world’s number two ranking between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, and a fired-up Frenchman vying to claim his country’s first men’s singles title since Yannick Noah in 1983, will take to the red clay stage of the French Open on Friday. If Djokovic can beat Nadal, he will move into Nadal’s 2 spot in the ATP rankings. Gael Monfils the unseeded Paris-born player who entered the tournament ranked 59 in the world, upset No. 5 David Ferrer in four sets on Wednesday, and will play World No. 1 Roger Federer in the other semifinal. Whatever happens Friday, the finals Sunday is sure to be an epic match.

Federer is 3-0 career against Monfils, beating him in straight sets each time, including in April on clay in Monte Carlo. Nadal is 7-3 in his career against Djokovic, including a 4-0 tally on clay. I’m going the safe route and predicting Nadal over Djokovic in four hard-fought sets, and Federer in three sets over Monfils, with only the first set being competitive.

Who do you think will win? Put your predictions in the comments box.
