U.S. Davis Cup Team Hoping for Fifth Match Comeback: Hasn’t Seen a Meaningful Final Match Since 2000

The U.S. Davis Cup team needs to win both singles matches Sunday to defeat the Croatians – if they do so, it would be the first meaningful fifth and final match for the U.S. team since 2000. That’s when Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras teamed to come from back from being down two matches to one against the Czech Republic. (There have been other 3-2 margins in U.S. Davis Cup play since, but in each case the fifth match was a dreaded “dead rubber.” Here’s hoping for a long, exciting Sunday for the Netheads in Croatia.
