Rafael Nadal sat out with an injury making Spain look like decisive underdogs on the road going into the Davis Cup final this weekend, but the Spaniards came up big below the Equator. Spain was down 1-0 and the first set in the second singles Friday, but charged back to win the 2008 Davis Cup by a 3-1 score in Argentina. David Ferrer lost the opening match to David Nalbandian, but Feliciano Lopez came back to beat Juan Del Potro and Fernando Verdasco closed it out up with Sunday with a five-set win over Jose Acasuso after being down three sets to one. Lopez and Verdasco also teamed to win the doubles on Saturday. The cup is Spain’s third, and their win denies Argentina their first Davis Cup championship. For more coverage, check out The International Herald-Tribune, AFP and The Latin American Herald Tribune.
